Cartwheel’s Care Programs are organized around the challenges schools and families are already navigating, making it easier to match what you’re seeing in a student to the right support.

Care Programs are organized around challenges schools and families already recognize. A concern can be the starting point for a referral.

Not sure which program fits? Refer anyway. Concerns often overlap, and you don’t need to untangle them before referring. Note the closest program or describe what you’re seeing, and Cartwheel’s clinical team will help determine the right support. Students don’t need to fit a Care Program to receive Cartwheel care.
All Care Programs are available across grade levels. For younger students, care emphasizes parent guidance and caregiver involvement.
Every student receives Cartwheel’s core care, with added structure around the concern that brought them in.
Same referral pathway. No additional district cost for Care Programs.
Refer a student. School staff submit a referral through the Cartwheel portal and can note the closest Care Program or describe the concern. Families can complete the family interest form, which the school team reviews.
Care Coordinator reaches out. Within 24 hours of referral, a Cartwheel Care Coordinator reaches out to the family to welcome them, collect insurance information, and schedule the first session.
Care begins. The first therapy appointment is typically scheduled within 7–10 days of referral, and screening begins at the start of care.
Support alongside care. Caregivers can use optional caregiver education and parent guidance alongside sessions.
Progress and updates. Clinicians and families set meaningful goals, such as better sleep, fewer conflicts, or calmer responses to frustration. Screening continues to track progress, and school teams receive updates through the portal.
Care Programs are available through school districts that partner with Cartwheel.
School counselors and teachers play an important role in helping students work through challenges like school avoidance, screen use, and big emotions. Cartwheel offers additional clinical support when those challenges begin to affect a student’s emotional well-being, relationships, learning, or school engagement. Our clinicians provide individualized care, caregiver guidance, and coordination with school teams, building on the support students already receive at school.
No. Referrals use the same pathway as any Cartwheel referral, with no additional district cost for Care Programs. Cartwheel’s clinical services are primarily funded through insurance, including Medicaid and most major private plans, and financial aid is available for uninsured and underinsured students.
You don’t need to be certain. Concerns often overlap, and referrers don’t need to untangle them first. Choose the closest fit or describe what you’re seeing, and Cartwheel’s clinical team will work with the family to determine the right support.
Yes. Care Programs are available across grade levels. Care is tailored to each student’s age and developmental needs, and for younger students it emphasizes parent guidance and caregiver involvement.
School staff can see where a student is in the process in the Cartwheel portal. Cartwheel reaches out to the family within 24 hours of referral, and the first therapy appointment is typically scheduled within 7–10 days.
Caregiver education is optional. Family involvement is an important part of care, and depending on a student’s age, caregivers may take part in parent guidance and family sessions. Staff know their families best, and conversations often unfold over time, so it helps to frame care as an offer of help.
With appropriate consent, school teams receive HIPAA-compliant updates on engagement and progress, and Cartwheel collaborates with school staff within existing communication and privacy practices.
