When we find out that our child or teen may be engaging in non-suicidal self-injury, it's normal to feel a range of emotions from shock, guilt, fear, shame, or confusion. All of these feelings are valid and normal - but how we manage our feelings in a way that allows us to show up for our child or teen can make all the difference in whether they feel supported, and whether or not they may feel ready to receive help. About the speakers

Taylor Burke, PhD

Taylor Burke, PhD is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and a licensed clinical psychologist. She is the Director of Pediatric Computational Health, Associate Director of Suicide Research in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Co-Director of the Mood & Behavior Lab at MGH and Harvard Medical School, whose overarching mission is to improve current knowledge of what puts certain youth and young adults at risk for suicide and non-suicidal self-injury, and to prevent these outcomes. Dr. Burke’s research aims to advance the prediction and prevention of self-injurious thoughts and behaviors among youth and young adults. Dr. Burke has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on the causes of self-injurious thoughts and behaviors. Dr. Burke uses novel methods and computational approaches to improve the identification and treatment of youth at risk.
