This past summer, students across the country read The Amazing Generation, tried something new offline, and shared what it meant to them.
Their reflections were powerful—and now we’re celebrating the students and schools that made it happen.

These are just a few of the reflections from students across the country
who took the challenge this summer.

$1,000 Bookshop.org gift card for the school library
Jersey City Public Schools brought the My Amazing Summer Challenge to life across its community. With 50+ student submissions this district inspired us.
Students in 4th and 5th grade across several schools shared a wonderful range of phone-free experiences—from everyday moments with family and friends to new hobbies, outdoor adventures, celebrations, and travel. What stood out was the thoughtfulness of their reflections and how often they returned to the value of being present with the people they care about.
Four districts were also recognized for the quality of their student submissions.
Each district received a $250 Bookshop.org gift card in recognition of their submission.
Huntington County Community School Corporation, Indiana
Shenango Area School District,

In addition to our winning submissions, we want to give a special Honorable Mention shoutout to these schools,
whose students also brought thoughtfulness, creativity, and enthusiasm to the My Amazing Summer Challenge:
Bristol-Warren Regional School District (RI) • Cambridge Public Schools (MA) • Lebanon School District (NH) • Legacy Christian School (IN) • Medway Public Schools (MA) • Memphis-Shelby County Schools (TN) • Milford Public School District (MA)
Eight students were also recognized as Featured Rebels for submissions that especially stood out to us. From trying new things and spending more time outside to connecting with family and friends, their reflections captured so much of what the My Amazing Summer Challenge was all about. Each Featured Rebel received a $100 Bookshop.org gift card in recognition of their submission.

The Challenge doesn’t have to stop here. Districts can bring this to students any time of year—during back-to-school kickoffs, advisory periods, Mental Health Awareness Month, wellness weeks, or whenever it fits your calendar.
You can get the complete digital toolkit for free. Everything is ready to use as-is. No prep time required.
Start the Challenge
Cartwheel’s Care Programs are organized around the challenges schools and families are already navigating — school avoidance, screen time conflicts, social media stress, emotional overwhelm, outbursts, and behavior struggles — making it easier to identify when a student or family may need support and connect them to care.
Our Screens & Social Media Program was designed for students and families caught in the pull of screens, social media, and digital stress.
